Hurricane Loss Mitigation Program
The State of Florida Division of Emergency Management Hurricane Loss Mitigation Program provides assistance to eligible residents of St. Lucie & Okeechobee County who are in need of exterior protection to their homes from windstorm events. This program will address all repairs found on an inspection that address exterior protections. All repairs on the inspection report must be done in order to comply with this program. No interior repairs will be addressed through this funding.

Owner-occupied St. Lucie County/Okeechobee properties only

Home built between and including 1978 & 2002

Have a current Homeowner's Insurance policy
​

Owners are U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents
​

Income is 120% or less of the area median income

Hotel, Motel, and manufactured home addresses will not be eligible for this program

The property must not be in foreclosure or listed for sale
​

Properties with outstanding code violations, liens, or unpermitted structures are not eligible for this program
Should you desire to apply for the program, please complete and submit the application provided to you in accordance with the instructions outlined below and in the application.
INSTRUCTIONS

Review the Program Guide and the Eligibility Requirements.

Download and complete the application or pick up a hard copy of the application at one of our Habitat ReStore locations (addresses are below).

Retrieve and enclose copies of all requested and applicable supporting documentation and the completed application.

Documents proving applicant(s) financial situation(s) must be provided. More info about supporting documentation is in the application.

Submit completed applications and provide all supporting documentation. Completed applications will only be accepted by one of the following methods:
All mailed or dropped-off applications and supporting documentation must be enclosed in a plain, sealed envelope labeled “Hurricane Loss Mitigation Program.”

For drop-offs at our ReStores: Please hand the envelope to the cashier and sign across the seal on the back of the envelope in the cashier's presence.

For drop-offs at the office through the drop box: Please sign and date across the seal on the back of the envelope before placing it in the drop box.

Warning: Availability of Funds
Complete applications will be processed on a first-come, first-ready basis, provided all program eligibility criteria are met. Only fully completed applications—including all required supporting documentation to verify eligibility—will be accepted. Incomplete applications will not be processed, with no exceptions.
The number of applications processed and approved depends on the availability of funds. Habitat for Humanity of St. Lucie & Okeechobee will announce the program’s closure on their website at www.habitatslo.house once funding has been exhausted.
